When the curtain opens on Theatricks' production of OLIVER! on September 5, the audience will see the culmination not only of six weeks of hard work by cast and crew, but also the most recent part of the ongoing dream of the people who established the Sherman Little Theater in 1926.

What started 82 years ago has become the Sherman Community Players, which has earned recognition as an exemplary community theater in Texas. Part of the reason for that designation is its children's division, Theatricks, which teaches children, adolescents and young adults the art of theater.
Theatricks, under the direction of Webster Crocker, has two arms. Club Theatricks presents three productions each year and teaches a semester of theatrical workshops. Project Theater serves as an educational resource for area teachers, as its cast and crew travel across the area presenting plays frequently based on children's fairy tales.
Theatricks current production is an ambitious production with a cast of 45 children and adults who will re-tell Charles Dickens' story of an impoverished and abused boy for whom fortune changes after he meets some of the most interesting characters in English literature.
OLIVER!, sponsored by Sherman Cardiovascular Care Associates, presents not only Dickens' characters, but also a bevy of memorable songs including "Food, Glorious Food," "Boy for Sale," "Where is love?" "As Long as He Needs Me" and many others.
"The production is coming together in a great way," Crocker, Sylvia Rivers, (vocal director), Fred Freeman, (orchestra coordinator) and Amy Dean, (choreographer), agree. "It's going to be a great show."
Following OLIVER!, which is the first show of this season, Theatricks will produce HONK! and A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD.
HONK!, a play for the whole family, is the story of Ugly, who finds his inner beauty and many friends during a long and harrowing journey home.
A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD is the story of cheery Frog and grumpy Toad who are best friends who fly kites, race sleds and bake cookies, all accompanied by hilarious and tender songs and snazzy, jazzy music.
Theatricks 2008-2009 season sponsored by Sherman Tourism Department, currently is selling memberships through the run of OLIVER!. Tickets for OLIVER! can be purchased beginning Monday, September 1 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m., for Theatricks season members, and on Tuesday, September 2, for the general public. All tickets are $10.00 and can be reserved by calling the SCP box office at (903)892-8818 or by visiting the box office window at the Honey McGee Playhouse located at 313 W. Mulberry Street in Sherman, TX.
