MOSCOW RULES
Dan Silva
G. P. Putnam & Sons
Gabriel Allon, the spy made famous by Daniel Silva, has taken a sort of sabbatical in MOSCOW RULES. He has just been married and he and his lovely wife, Chiara, have come to Umbria, Italy and are enjoying the quiet of the countryside in a huge mansion. Chiara was left to sleep, walk and swim in the beautiful house while Gabriel (under the pseudonym of ?Alessio Vanelli) was sequestered in the drawing room working on his latest project.? Gabriel (Alex for short) has been commissioned by the Pope, himself, to restore a beautiful painting by the artist, Poisson. The days are long and lovely until one day when Alex is summoned by his long-time fellow spy, Uzi Navot. He never finished the Poisson.
Navot persuades Gabriel to postpone his honeymoon for a bit, because a critical situation has arisen. A noted newspaper reporter, Boris Ostrovsky, is reported to be coming to Italy to meet with someone he can confide a great Russian secret. He will not speak with just anyone either ? he has specified a man who has had his picture in the paper many times for helping people. That person is Gabriel Allon. However, before they have a chance to meet, Ostrovsky is killed ? he dies in the arms of Allon.
Gabriel must go to the ?new? Moscow ? the one with ?new? rules. In order for Allon to be effective, he must learn ?MOSCOW RULES.? He has never been in Russia before so the learning of these rules are hard. You will be taken from Italy to France to Russia in such a windstorm of controversy, of spy games, of mass weapons, of murder and deceit, that you will be breathless. In MOSCOW RULES, Silva breaks all the rules and will not allow you to find a spot where you feel it will be all right to put the book down for while.
Silva is mentioned in the same breath with Frederick Forsyth and John LeCarre. You will find it a highly charged book that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you try to assist Gabriel in his endeavors. You will run with him, suffer with him, and love with him.
